Emancipator - Soon It Will Be Cold Enough (2008)

My sister just called me up at 8am (here) from Tokyo to send me an album she just bought, emancipator's 'soon it will be cold enough to build fires'. From what I can gather Emancipator is an artist with Hydeout Productions from Toronto and he is only 19 years old. According to his myspace page:


"Emancipator escaped from the Underground Railroad Chain Gang in the 11th century. He invented the hot air balloon, with which he chartered the Amazon River. He invented wine.

Emancipator found the formula for the crystallization of ice during a quiet Japanese winter. He perfected the art of agriculture. He can climb trees faster than you.

Emancipator bleeds ambrosia. He discovered Iceland. He can breathe underwater.

Emancipator lives in a fortress made of moon rock. His presence attracts songbirds. He can recite all the digits of pi. "



The album itself has 12 tracks. The style is sort of electronica/trip hop/down-tempo.

(I'm a little confused because after some research I've found one that came out in 2006, but according to my sister it came out this year... maybe just in Japan?)

The titles of the tracks remind me of Jack London's 'To Build a Fire' (and by that, in my head connects it to Haruki Murakami's story 'Landscape and Flatiron').
I'd recommend songs, but I think the whole thing is great. It's mostly instrumental, but far too good to just be background music. The album reminds me of 이터널 모닝 (타블로+페니) (Eternal Morning, Tablo + Pe2ny)'s 'Soundtrack to a Lost Film' but less dark/heavy.
