Charlie Chaplin's The Kid (1921)

This movie made a strong impression on me during one of my classes last semester and I recently rented it to watch it again.
The Kid (1921) combines comedy and drama in a silent Charlie Chaplin film about an orphan that Chaplin takes in as his own.

Chaplin's character, called the 'Tramp', shows great emotional depth (though still being comedic), and the child actor, Jackie Coogan does a really wonderful job as the Kid. The film itself does an amazing job of displaying the relationship between the two without the use of words. It's refreshing to watch a black and white film that depends on gestures and facial expressions rather than computer animation/special effects or a heavy use of dialogue.
I haven't seen any of Chaplin's other movies (or any other silent ones, for that matter) but I think I'll definitely be watching a few more in the future.
